The executive director at The Christian Mission contacted me to create a sculptural mosaic for their Hope Garden at their new headquarters. She gave me total design freedom, only specifying that she loved my mandala mosaics. My goal was to create a mosaic that would be interesting to view from all angles and would be joyful. I used a rainbow of colors while following the organization’s style guide. At the offset base, deep blues flow into aqua and turquoise tones in graceful arcs. Transitioning from blues to greens, and then to yellows and peach tones, the mandala pattern wraps around the globe, meeting in a floral shape at the top of the sphere. The andamento in the various patterns invites you to run your fingers along the lines or sit on a bench and let your eyes follow the rhythms.
