This mosaic mural explores the superimposition of two perspectives: the waves of Baltimore harbor and the stars above. Reflections of the stars on the water bring out a sense of belonging to the vast cosmos, reminding us that the greater universe is present everywhere—including our home.

The mosaic is a result of a community and volunteer collaboration with artist Yulia Hanansen and TRowe Price company. The mural was created using hand-cut stained glass tiles. In addition to the glass, ceramic star pieces were individually crafted by volunteers and community service groups. To enhance the shimmering effect of the waves, 24K gold smalti glass was incorporated.

A particularly meaningful element of the mosaic is the inclusion of pottery ceramics unearthed in the Baltimore area. These fragments connect the piece to the city’s historical past, while the stars symbolize progress and forward movement.
