smalti, Dalle de Verre, vitreous glass, recycled glass, gold smalti
I wished to make a mosaic that reflects my love of ocean waves. I have spent many hours boogie boarding and swimming in the ocean, and I love the curl of a breaking wave. Using Dalle de Verre, I have tried to show light coming through the curve of a breaking wave, and smalti to show the resulting foam as the wave breaks upon the water’s surface. I used an old white glass bathroom shelf for the white smalti, and various green & blue tesserae made of recycled glass by Bedrock Industries in Seattle. This mosaic also tries to show the confusion and refections made by a breaking wave, one reason I have used so many different glass materials.
